Comments:  This listing is pretty interesting to me because I used to live in that complex.  It’s a nice area on the top of Brittan in San Carlos, but the condos are pretty old.  When I lived there in 2005 these condos were selling like hotcakes for ridiculous prices in a matter of days and the real estate agents delivered the sales notices to every condo as a way to gloat or something.  I lived in the 3 bedroom version with 2 roommates and paid $650 in rent per month.  So I’d say it’s much more economical to rent these condos.

Pricing history like this is one of the reasons I decided not to buy a condo. From 1989 to 1994, the condo went down a lot in price, then now it is listed at less than twice the 1989 price, and this is in a nice area like San Carlos. It is obvious the line that prices double every 10 years is BS, it will soon be 20 years from ‘89 and prices will not be anywhere close to 900k. But yeah, a rent of $1950/month means paying more than $390k would be really uneconomical. I wonder what the rents were in ‘94 an ‘89 though.

The HOA is also pretty high at this place. I think for my landlord it was something like $435 because he had the 3 bedroom. I lived there for 2 years and 3 months from 2005 to 2007. He only raised the rent 25 bucks. I’m pretty sure he bought a loooooong time ago, though, since one of my roomies has lived there for 30 years. She said the rent was about $1000 in the 80s and she shared with her sister back then. Now her rent is up to $700 in 2008. This means after 20 years her rent went up $200.
